A number of new laws affecting Virginia motorists will be effective July 1, 1977.
New legislation passed by the 1977 General Assembly of statewide interest according to John T. Hanna, director, Highway Safety Division of Virginia includes:
—All persons entering the Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program (VASAP) may now be required by the court to pay all court costs which would have been payable upon a conviction of driving under the influence of alcohol. This is in addition to the VASAP fee.
—As soon as reasonably possible after an accident an injured driver must make a report to the police authority, locate the person struck or the custodian of the damaged property involved and provide such person(s) with his name, address, operator’s or chauffeur’s license number and the registration number of his vehicle.
