Moderate Growth Plan Speaking in favor of the rezoning, Peggy Clark stated that she thought it would be “terrific” for the county to have some industry that an increased population would bring. “We can’t remain no growth...It’s just not RLEP that’s represented in this county.”
The county needs a moderate growth plan, stated Miriam Harris. “We don’t have one now...What we’re considering is going to force growth here that nobody wants.”
Becky Burke, speaking in favor of the subdivision proposal, suggested that Goode make his lot size even smaller so that county residents could afford to live in his development. “My generation is becoming extinct in Rappahannock,” she said. “We need a place to live.”
E. J. Welch wanted to know where RLEP took the survey mentioned by Phil Irwin that indicated the majority of Rappahannock residents wanted the county to stay the way it is. “They didn’t come around to our neck of the woods,” he said.. Department of Agriculture had surveyed ten per cent of the land owners in Rappahannock and approximately 70 per cent of those questioned had felt the county should make no
