Companion Services, a program directed towards keeping the elderly poor in their communities instead of nursing home institutions, will not be abandoned.
In November, the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors denied Public Assistance Director Elizabeth Buntin’s request for a supplemental appropriation to pay for the local share of companion services’ costs.
On Wednesday, the Welfare Board gave her unanimous approval to transfer funds within the department’s total budget to cover the shortage in the county’s only optional welfare program.
