A rash of animal accident* has occurred and been reported in the past couple of weeks and the trend continues. Trooper R. A. Baines has added two more to his list.
Sunday, November 27 on Route 211 at Ben Venue Thurman Jordan of Wheaton, Md., struck a mule belonging to Everett Estes. Damage of Jordan’s 69 Oldsmobile was estimated at $400 and the mule survived.
The following day on the same highway in the same approximate location a 77 Ford operated by Bruce Dotson of Camp Springs Md., struck a cow. Manuel Pullen of Amissville was the owner of the animal which had to be destroyed, according to Baines.
Monday on Route 231 at Kilby’s curve, a change of scenery and circumstances for Baines, he investigated a single vehicle accident. A 68 Volkswagen driven by Diane Wade went out of control and into the Kilby’s field. Information is incomplete since the driver went to Culpeper Hospital so the investigation continues, said the officer.
Sunday night’s short but blustery snow storm created hazardous road conditions and several accidents occurred. Dennis M. Bailey of Front Royal in a 69 Datsun overturned on Route 522 near Huntly. The car struck a gate on the Patrick Carrigan property.
