Rappahannock County seems to be a particularly good example of a place where women have been able to take responsibility and have seized that opportunity for the benefit of all concerned. At the present time such important county offices as clerk of the court, assistant clerk of the court, treasurer, commissioner of revenue, registrar, are held by women. There are three women postmasters in the county; women hold important administrative jobs in the local banks, the welfare department, the ASC, the health department, the county agent’s office. Our good library is chaired by a women, as well as run by women librarians. Women teachers continue to be very important in the school system. Women are active in all kinds of community activities. There is a tradition among farm wives to help their husband not only as homemakers, but with farm chores, as well as by taking off-the-farm jobs to help support it, such as the local sewing factory, or at Avtex in Front Royal.
