The patient feels little or no pain. “The actual aspiration is accomplished in a few seconds, and the patients are generally more apprehensiye about the description of the procedure than the aspiration itself,’’ Dr. Frable remarked.
The thin-needle aspiration biopsy is done at MCV only upon referral from the patient’s physician. The procedure has been widely accepted by both adult and child patients.
The aspiration is of particular benefit to women who have lumps on their breasts. In many instances, the lumps prove to be fluidfilled cysts which disappear after the fluid is drained by the needle. Because the biopsy can be done without anesthesia and because the results can be completed within minutes, the patient quickly knows whether the lump is malignant, in most cases.
