Kitty and John Gaines have come home. After long yean outside Rappahannock, they returned to the county three yean ago to realize a long time dream in opening a craft shop. Kathryn Hitt Gaines is a native of Rappahannock ' County. She was bom in a log cabin in Viewtown that was built by her grandfather in the early 1800’s. She moved to Warrenton when she was 17 and met and married John Gaines. For the next 38 yean, the couple lived in Fauquier and Culpeper counties and in McLean where Kitty was a buyer for the Country Store at Evans Farm Inn.
She has brought the country arts and crafts ex* pertise she gained there back to the real country.
John and Kitty found an old filling station at Ben Venue (formerly Gaines Crossing, named after a distant relative of John’s). Converted into a shop, it became an outlet for native crafts, both old and new.
Have you ever felt you were at wits end? Well, John and Kitty were definitely there three years ago before moving back to Rappahannock so that’s what they named their shop.
