Last week s story on the restoration of Mt. Salem Baptist Church inadvertently failed to mention efforts of numerous county citizens involved in the project.
On March 29, 1976, members of the Mt. Salem congregation met at the Baptist Church in Washington and voted to form a non-profit corporation devoted to restoring Mt. Salem. The Baptist Association named Rev. Gale Tichenell minister with responsibilities of holding services at least once a year in the old church.
Tichenell was also chosen as chairman of the restoration committee. James Burke, Jeannette Pullen, Louise O’Bannon and Anne Keyser were appointed trustees. Officers included Rev. Tichenell as pastor, Barbara Reid as treasurer and Anne S. Keyser as clerk.
Original members of the restoration committee as of March, 1976 were George Davis, Billy Kilby, James Burke, Jeannette Pullen and Ann Baumer. James W. Fletcher and George Davis volunteered^to serve as legal advisors. E. M. Jones, Howard Holschuh and Barbara Reid were appointed to the finance committee.
