Although not a native oi Rappahannock County, John's grandfather was the first judge in Rappahannock, Fauquier and Loudoun Counties. An avid historian, John is a storehouse of information on area history. Tucked away in his woodshop in the mountains, John is teaching his son David the fine art of woodcrafting. The two men look like elves in Santa’s shop, trying to get everything finished in time for Christmas. One of the projects that David is working on are wooden checkerboards with corn cob checkers. John is putting the finishing touches on a large trestle table for a client in Culpeper. Next in line are two gun cases that he promised to finish before the big holiday.
John and Kitty Gaines are unique people. They enjoy what they do wholeheartedly.
At the present, they are in the planning stages of their dream house that they want to build this summer on land they bought several years ago. John has promised Kitty that he will try to recreate the furniture she grew up with as a child.
