Once again, the vernal activities of the eastern tent caterpillars have caused a great deal of concern in the county. Their silken “tents” in the crotches of open-grown wild cherry trees are unusually common this year.
Masses of caterpillars leave their protective webs during the day to feed on the leaves of their host trees. The resulting defoliation—and the "tents” themselves—can be real eye sores but will rarely cause any permanent injury to the trees. The larvae
