To the editor: News that a swap of some Rappahannock and Warren County Park land, for privately owned land in Greene County is being considered provoked some thoughts new to me. For instance, if I had discovered a piece of the Park I would like to have, could I go to the Park Authority and find out what lands in private hands the authorities would like most to acquire, seek out the owners of that sort of land, arrange what purchase or purchases I could, and then get back to the Park authorities for some negotiations?
This sort of thought occurs because as things stand with the proposed swap of Greene County land for Warren and Rappahannock County land, it looks as if Park land can only pass into special hands for private use—that this sort of thing isn’t available to all. Surely that can’t be ttue. Surely anyone wanting Park land could get it if one were just ingenious enough.
Another thought that sprang to mind was how the proposed new owners of Rappahannock County Park land would respond to a suggestion that, to show their good faith with respect to what they would like to see happen to that land, they donate a scenic easement on it to the Park Authority which would preserve it as is in perpetuity?
