To the editor:
I should like to raise my voice in protest over the proposed "land swap" as reported in the Rappahannock News. To me. it is unthinkable that any land, which has been entrusted to the National Park Service, should be turned over without restriction to private parties, regardless of the status of these individuals.
I need not remind the Park Service that land for our Shenandoah National Park was purchased from, or donated by its former owners to be held in trust for future generations. Descendents of these original owners still reside in the immediate area. To give this land away now seems to me to be a serious breach of truat. not only to the original owners and their families, but to owners of adjacent land and to all Americans. No one should be allowed to profit from, or to exploit the timber, wildlife, or the heritage of this trust.
I hope that the Park Service will do everything in its power to caned this proposed travesty.
