Try-outs
The Rappahannock Athletic Association will hold try-outs for its summer baseball program on Saturday, June 10, from 1 p.m. until a pjn. at the elementary and high school fields. The program is open to all boys and girls between the ages of eight and 14.
Everyone interested will be able to play. Saturday's try-outs are not for the purpose of cutting any children from the teams but rather for assessing ability so the better players can be evenly divided on balanced teams. Children who may lack the necessary skills for competition will take part in a special instructional program managed by former professional baseball star Walter Masterson. As the children in the special program improve, they will be moved up to regular teams. The Rappahannock Athletic Association still needs volunteers, particularly for umpires and grounds keepers. Anyone interested in helping with the summer baseball program can contact RAA president Guy Foster at 675-3467.
