At Tuesday night's meeting, the Washington Town Council voted unanimously to abandon—at least temporarily—a new bOO foot well site that is producing only four gallons of water per minute and authorized Leazer Well Drilling Company to dig a second hole on the one-acre lot owned by the town.
Councilman Charlie lenkins reported that the town reservoir was "holding its own" at nine and one-half leet. "What I'm pumping out lof the well) is what they're using." he added.
Councilman Brad Fisher, presiding at the meeting in the absence of Mavor New bill Miller, suggested asking the townspeople to make an extra attempt to conserve water. He noted that the average Washington resident uses 125 gallons per day.
"We agreed to go down another 150 feet," said councilman C. F. Giles, referring to the Council's approval at a previous meeting to excavate the new well site to "SO feet in hopes ol finding more water. "What do we do then it we don't find anything?"
H T. Updike reported that the Leazer Company employee digging the neyv well for the town had said there "wasn't a bit of change in the rock in the last 100 feet he went down "
"We’ve got to have water someplace.'' Jenkins responded.
"It's a gamble no matter what you do. ' acknowledged Fisher, agreeing with Giles that well diggers often can go down hundreds ol feet at one location without any success and then move over five feet and find water.

"I'd like to see that thing the new well site) moved," responded Jenkins.
"It's getting kind of :ritical." interjected Fisher
