Accidents occured at Amissville on three Saturday nights in a row recently during peak traffic periods when hundreds of motorists were cruising through Rappahannock to admire the changing autumn leaves.
At the time that each of these accidents happened, there was not a single trooper in the county. It took the state police almost an hour to reach the scene.
If the Supervisors agree that we need more patrolling, it will have to be handled by someone other than the State Police.
Maybe the time has come for the Board to give serious consideration to Sheriff W. A. Bun tin’s annual request for another deputy. With added manpower, the Rappahannock Sheriff’s Department would be able to spend more time policing the highways and just maybe, this visible law enforcement presence could cut down on our 500 per cent increase in traffic deaths.
