Wildlife poaching activities will again cause Park Rangers to close two sections of Shenandoah National Park to vehicular travel during all hours of darkness from November 13 through December 3, Superintendent Robert R. Jacobsen says.
The affected portions of the Skyline Drive will be the 31-mile section from Front Royal south of U.S. Highway 211 at Thornton Gap, and the 39-mile section from Waynesboro north of U.S. Highway 33 at Swift Run Gap.
The Park roads in these areas will be closed at dark each day and will not re-open until 8 on the following mornings. The remaining section of the Skyline Drive, located between U.S. Highways 211 and 33, and giving access to Big Meadows Lodge and Campground, will remain open as usual.
Superintendent Jacobsen said, in announcing this closure, that similar actions during the past three years have proven very successful in countering illegal hunting
