Adamson emphasized, however, that only the development plan for the Alpine slide was before the board for approval as prerequisite to issuance of a building permit.
In addition to the Alpine slide, the development plan prepared by architect Avery Faulkner shows a maintenance shop, ski rental building, three ski trials and four lifts—all to be constructed at some future date as the venture succeeds and money becomes available.
The slide itself will be built through the center of the 301-acre tract, proceeding from a hill top towards the existing lodge. According to Faulkner, grassy areas will extend right up to the precast concrete track.
“I consider this as a garden plan on a giant scale," said Faulkner, noting that the ski trails would also be landscaped. He added that the area around the lodge would be planted with flowering trees and the parking lot for 536 cars planted with sycamores.
“It won’t be a commercial development. It’s to be a part in which you ski," Faulkner told the planners.
