“The suprising and perhaps one of the main points of the whole chapter is the decline in amount of acreage in orchards,” said Capelle. His figures show orchard acreage decreased from slightly under 4,000 in 1964 to approximately 2,000 in 1974, a drop of 50 per cent.

“That’s a discouraging figure because the county is suitable for orchards,” said planner Newbill Miller.

"And that’s only for ten years—from 1964 to 1974,” Capelle noted.
