Faced with implementing its order to cut gasoline consumption, the Rappahannock school board last Tuesday postponed for 10 days decisions on restricting students from driving to school, consolidating bus stops, eliminating bus route extensions and curtailing after-school activity runs.
In following up on the board’s earlier directive to reduce gas use by 10 per cent—the equivalent of 4,600 gallons-superintendent William Bloomer presented a nine-point transportation conservation program. His proposals call for:
—reduction of 10 per cent in administrative travel,
—carrying a minimum of two students for each lesson in the driver education car,
—consolidation of bus stops within “safe and reasonable walking distance,"
