In a special meeting last Thursday in the clerk’s office building, Rappahannock supervisors E. P. Luke. Hubert Gilkey and Dick Latham opened the two bids received for renovation of the treasurer’s office and awarded the job to low bidder L. G. Zindel of Amissville.
Zindel's bid of $2,390 was less than half the only other proposal from Stephan Alexander for $6,480.46. Before letting the contract. Luke called in Zindel and Alexander's representative Grant Lee to make sure both knew exactly the specifications they'd be required to meet. The supervisor chairman noted I* that Zindel's bid was made - on the basis of exactly the „ same work as Alexander's, {.despite the difference in ’ price.
Specifications call for painting roof, trim, shutters and interior, patching interior walls, installing a ceiling trap door, adding a new ceiling to the front room, adding ten-inch insulation to the attic and installing four additional wall receptacles, three ceiling lights and 40 feet of shelving.
Following the bid opening, the board retired into executive session for legal counsel with commonwealth's attorney Douglas Baumgardner.
