Wakefield School in Huntly began its eighth year of operation September 8 with more than 300 students in its Primary, Grammar, and College Preparatory divisions.
According to Headmaster William Lynn, the school’s increased enrollment makes Wakefield the largest private school in a 10-county area.
Operating eight busses, Wakefield now transports students from locations in Rappahannock. Warren. Fauquier. Frederick, Clarke. Loudoun. Page, Culpeper, Prince William. Shenandoah counties, and for the first time the school is maintaining a boarding facility for upper school boys.
Lynn reports that Wakefield's faculty has increased to 26. Returning to Wakefield after a five year absence Eugene Cognon will resume teaching French. A native of France, he received his doctorate from the Sorbonne in Paris and taught French at Trinity College in Dublin and at Yale University. For the past three years he has been head of the French Department at Connecticut College in New London. Mr. Cognon will live in Hint Hill.

Guest Speaker
The Rev. Wendell Grant, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Washington, will be guest speaker at the Hopewell Baptist Church in Sperryville on Sunday. September 21, at 7 p.m.
The Hopewell choir will be celebrating their anniversary and will provide special music for the service.
