Confronted with a conflict between drug and alcohol policies and new state law, the Rappahannock school board at its September 9 meeting set up a special committee to hear discipline cases within 10 days of a student’s suspension from classes.
The action came following a long executive session with commonwealth’s attorney Douglas Baumgardner during which he covered numerous changes in school board law which take effect October 1.
The drug and alcohol policy adopted by the board last year requires suspension of any student suspected of a violation, pending board action.
