Gifted And Talented

Assistant superintendent Rob McDaniel reported that 58 gifted and 31 talented youngsters are currently being worked into the elementary schools new program under teacher Laurie Marshall.

Children in grades 4-7 will have three hours of enrichment instruction per week and students in primary grades will have about two hours. Youngsters in the gifted program will be pulled from language arts while those in the talented will miss science or social studies.

In selecting children jgr the gifted program. McDaniel said, teachers and administrators looked for youngsters with an IQ of at least 125. who had long attention spans, were innovative, performed well above the norm in reading and math, were creative thinkers, analytical and who did not stop with simply trying to solve a problem but went beyond.
