David was a graduate of Eaglebrook and LoomisChaffee School and had attended Landon and Prescott College, Arizona. He was an avid ocean sailor, backpacker and mountain climber having pursued these latter two interests in Arizona, Mexico & Alaska.
During the past five years he had resided in Huntly, Rappahannock County, Virginia; where he had built his own log cabin and had started a log splitting business. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Stratton Semmes of Ann Arbor, Mich, and Deryn Semmes of Potomac. A memorial service will be held today, Thursday, at 2 p.m. at St. Francis' Episcopal Church in Potomac, Md.
The family has suggested in lieu of flowers that expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection, Flint Hill, Virginia 22627.
