Program Audit
Last Tuesday. Eastham stated that the second step in a “logical approach" to capital outlay is an independent program audit done by someone "with no axes to grind in this county." The audit considered with the earlier report from Eastham and Stokes will show what the schools have, how they're using it and what they need, according to Eastham.
“I give my oath that if the first two steps are followed and they show a need for more space, then I’ll vote yes’ for a capital outlay program." He emphasized repeatedly that he has never, publicly or privately, taken a stand on capital outlay because "this member doesn’t know if we need more space or not."
In a related matter, board members Newbill Miller. Nelson Lane and Eastham agreed to meet on Wednesday. September 24. with Rappahannock administrators and curriculum specialists from Fairfax to evaluate class offerings here.
Earlier. Fairfax school representatives declined to conduct a program audit for the county, maintaining it would be of little use here, and suggested instead that the counties use the recommendations of the state Visiting Committee as guidelines for program evaluation.
