Councilman Charlie Jenkins suggested the ladies use the downstairs of the Washington post office for their thrift shop instead of the new town hall, adding that owner Arthur Miller had agreed to let them have the space at no rent.
Volume of sales would be greater at the town’s property, according to Mrs. Burke. Councilman Brad Fisher interjected that the ladies might also have to move out of the post office basement in the event that Miller rented it.
"Please don’t take offense but I do hate to see the thrift shop go into the church,’’ remarked councilman Skip Giles. “But if that’s the only place we have for it, I guess we could put it there,” he said, stressing the importance of disposing of unsalable merchandise first.
