The salary hike proposed by Dalton boosts state employees’ pay raises for the second year of the state’s two-year budgeting cycle from the 4.5, percent level approved last year to nine percent. Employees received a seven percent raise last year.
As for Medicaid, Dalton singled it out as the state’s most dangerous financial obligation.
“We face a situation in which the growth of this one program could endanger our | future support of education, mental health, welfare and a host of other essential state services to our people...We must find a way to keep thjs program within reasonable bounds over the next several years.” Dalton warned.
