It is this increased demand that makes it necessary for the town to have a flow of IS gallons per hour into the reservoir tank. Prior to the jump in consumption two months ago, seven gallons a minute was enough to fill Washington’s water needs, according to Fisher.
Wednesday morning, Mayor Newbill Miller reported that a geologist from the division of mineral resources has pinpointed five potential well sites, all with good recharge capacity, based on a map evaluation of the area. Miller said, however, that all of the potential well locations are over a half mile from town, necessitating the purchase of additional property before drilling can begin.
The mayor noted that the level of the reservoir tank has climbed significantly in the last 24 hours. With the four gallon per minute flow from the new well added to conservation efforts, he said, it will be possible to reduce and maybe even eliminate the need to have water hauled by truck. ‘
