sculpture. ‘‘People don’t understand how much you have to know to do abstract work,” she said. “I’m still at the point where I need to learn a great deal more about sculpture before I can attempt an abstract.”
Natalie Lewis likes to use contrasts in her work; rough textures against smooth, hard, straight lines against round curves. In the sculpture Consolation - her favorite - she’s carved two figures of rough limestone clutching each other in subtle curves, their positions rather than their faces showing despair as mute as the stone.
