Walking to work this morning I looked up at a bank time and temperature sign (they have one in Richmond too) and the temperature was in the low teens.
Turning the corner I ran into one of these “Joggernauts”. Would you believe he was jogging in a pair of short shorts in this cold weather? Had to get out of his way cause the hairs on his legs were sticking out like pine needles.
It may be cold outside, but there sure is a lot of hot air on the inside. We have heard about eight hours of debate on the Floor between defense lawyers and plaintiff lawyers who want to stiffen laws for criminals and in every case the crimihals always come out better off. No wonder our jails are so crowded. This same travesty has happened every year I have been down here. The defense lawyers outnumber the plaintiff lawyers.
We had a big debate on lowering the sales tax on food to 2 percent. It was a very confusing bill. In addition to the 2 percent reduction, there would also be a tax refund for people who make under $20,000. The total loss of revenue for the next budget would be in excess of $350 million. Besides how would a store handle the 2 percent on food and 4 percent on everything else when all food stores handle everything under the sun.
In addition a bill was passed which took the tax off non-prescription drugs. The only way to handle this mixup is to remove the tax from
