Higher prices not withstanding, Victor has a love affair going with his adopted country. “I don’t like it. I love it!” he announced with enthusiasm.
“When we picked him up at the airport and a couple of times since, he's had this blank stare on his face.” Pat said. "I asked him if we was all right. ‘I’m really in America! I’m really here!’ was his answer. It makes you feel good to hear somebody say that.”
"I'm living and feeling each day, each second,” Victor added, his face lighting up with its habitual smile.
“Oh Victor, you’re sooo deep,” Debby Helmer teased, barely suppressing a giggle.
In addition to the dairy in which he records the minute details of his stay in America, Victor is amassing a unique collection of things American. Asked if reports were true about his saving every wrapper, every straw and every napkin as momehtos of his first visit to McDonalds, Victor's olive toned skin blushed a bright red as he nodded his head in embarrassment.
