i- . Where, ever two or more beef cattle farmers get together now, one topic always crops up and that of course is feeder cattle prices. Farmers are concerned and rightly so. It’s a tough decision to make, especially this year, on when and how to market your cattle to your best advantage.
Not enough feeder calves have been sold through Virginia state graded feeder sales to establish a market. This week there will be 10,000 to 11,000 yearlings sold and the week of September 25 will see approximately 8,000 feeder calves auctioned through the special sales.
Virginia Yearling cattle sales, week of Sept. 11, saw 500-600 pd. steers (all grades) average $62.42-c. wt. and 500-600 pd. heifers (all grades) average $52.35-c. wt.
