"We need more letters to Governor Dalton about State allocations for emergency medical services,” advises Paul Poling. He is a member of the Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council to the Governor. He urges us to send a letter or a postcard to Governor Dalton, Commonwealth of Virginia, Governor’s Office, State Capitol, Richmond, Virginia 23219.
Federal funds are ended. The Department of Highway and Transportation Safety funds for rescue squad equipment are no longer available. At this time, even Virginia's Rescue Squad Assistance Fund is endangered.
Time is running out for our recommendations to the Governor. The State Budget is being finalized and our letters must be in by October I. The future pattern of State support for rescue squads is being formed right now.
Captains and members of rescue squads could write about funds needed to keep their ambulances and equipment in top running order. Supplies and improved equipment are also expensive.
Letters from emergency room doctors and nurses would be most helpful. They know the importance of communicating with rescue squad members at the scene. As soon as they receive initial
