The superintendent agreed to meet with Huff and bring recommendations back to the board on transportation records.
Addressing the gifted and talented program, Estabrook reported “unfortunate views” circulating around the county that only youngsters in grades 3-7 will be served. He said he'd asked G&T teacher Laurie Marshall to develop a general plan on how to deal with talented youngsters, including everything, from how to identify those who qualify as talented to an actual program to evaluation of its effectiveness. In order to provide "a place to start,” he suggested she begin with grades 3-7. Estabrook emphasized, however, that the final program will include kindergartners through seniors in high school in accord with state mandates.
Estabrook noted that he is attacking development of a program for gifted students and asked the board to appoint a G&T advisory committee at its next meeting.
