How jnfortunate that these allegations were not verified before they were printed.
Baliles alleged, for . example, that Wyatt Durrette had opposed legislation which established a program to compensate innocent victims of crime. The fact of the matter Is that Wyatt Durrette not only chaired the commission which studied the proposal and recommended the legislation establishing such a program, Wyatt Durrette was the sponsor of the bill in the House of Delegates. His bill provided for an appropriation of funds with which to put the program into effect. Durrette voted against an alternate proposal which had no provision for appropriating funds to compensate victims of crime.
