One word of caution, however. Once a winter feeding program is started the birds become dependent upon it for sustenance, it must be kept up regularly.
In Washington, Clarissa Valasquez, who feeds the birds twice a day in her feeder, reports the following visitors this winter: cardinals, blue jays, grosbeaks, chicadees. juncos, purple finches, house finches, hairy woodpeckers, nuthatches, eastern phoebes, brownheaded cowbirds.^and sparrows.
