Co-sponsors of the bill include Dels. George P. Beard Jr. (R-Culpeper) and Raymond R- "Andy" Guest Jr. (R-Warren). Del. Guest and Del. Beard agreed that the stricter penalties were needed to discourage the use of firearms in the commission of felonies.
