“China, A Country Study,” a new book published by The America University through a contract with the U.S. Department of Defense, includes several photographs taken by Dr. William Young of Castleton.

The shots of a rural commune near Nanning, a peasant farmer testing a new tractor at an industrial trade fair, carts, bicycles and buses in downtown Hangzhou, the Forbidden City with its statues of lions guarding the entrance gates, ships on the Huangpu Jiang at Shanghai and the faces of China captured at rural markets and communes and on busy city streets were all taken during Dr. and Mrs. Young’s three week trip to that country in the spring of 1980.
