The shortfall in the past has been made up by the Washington Region, which serves parts of Maryland and West Virginia, in addition to the District of Columbia and Virginia. But the Washington Region itself cannot always meet quotas, so blood officials worry over what will happen if blood donations by residents of this area continue to fall below the requirements of Fauquier Hospital.
