pick up cheese for a food stamp or SSI recipient. Any aged or disabled person unable to pick up their cheese should call the welfare office before the day assigned for pick up so that other arrangements can be made.
The welfare office has no capacity for cheese storage; therefore, all cheese not issued by the last day of the distribution program will be disposed of according to instructions from the Department of Agriculture.
The processed American cheese, to be given away in five-pound blocks, has been accumulated by the federal government through price support programs.
The Rappahannock Welfare Department needs volunteers to work half-day shifts to help distribute the cheese. Shifts will run from 9-12 a.m. and from 1-4 p.m. Anyone interested in donating a half-day of their time should contact the
department at 675-3200.
