While the highest unemployment levels in years have sent a line of new clients to the-welfare office, Rappahannock welfare department’s proposed 1982-83 budget shows only an eight percent increase over total spent this year for social services.
In addition, the local share of the 1982-83 budget presented by acting director Nancy Reeve at last Fridav's board meeting is $48,221, two percent less than the $49,506 in local monev requested last year. (The supervisors cut the proposed 1981-82 budget by $4,000, bringing the amount of local money actually spent down to $45,790, five percent less than Rappahannock's share of the 1982-83 proposal.)
