A new race on the card this year has attracted the largest number of entries to date, with 25 horses going to the post for the Eastern View Farm flat race at 1 p.m.
Eleven entries are slated to run in the Spring Hill, third race of the day. The threemile open timber race will feature last year’s winner Laughing Dragon, Olin Armstrong riding.
Two leading lady riders will be featured in the Melrose Castle ladies event. Patty Cassel, thrde-time winner of the title will be aboard Splashy Lee, and Susan Sutula. 1981 winner, will be riding her Two Far Gone.
Eight horses are scheduled to run in the fifth race, the Rogue's Road, an open hurdle race over a one and one half mile course. Last year’s winner Irish Reports, owned by Buckingham Farm, will be back this year, with Bernie Houghton riding.
The Foxhunters Plate, an owner-rider race for foxhunters not yet ready for regular point-to-point competition, will be the seventh race, with nine entries. Clarke Whitaker, winner for the past two years, will return aboard Swift Creek Stables’ Gray War, as
