Aid to dependent children foster care and regular foster care are the only assistance categories to have a decrease in the proposed budget, bringing the total increase for assistances to 17 percent (from $52,262 to $61,319).
Reeve noted that a budget supplement may have to be submitted, upping the assistances total, if the state mandates adult foster care, an option currently under consideration. Even without a new mandated program, the proposed budget shaves it close in providing adequate funds, she said, adding that a state hospital had called that morning to report a Rappahannock patient is ready to be released to domiciliary care and requires an auxiliary grant to cover costs. Reeve said she had not anticipated that this person would be released from the state institution. “We're really going to be using our limits," she said.
