The program which was started last year for gifted and talented students by Ms. Laurie Marshall, has recently been restructured. This program was established to allow students, who show a desire, to further their learning experience through classes and projects other than those offered in the normal high school curriculum. There are many different areas in which gifted students wish to learn. For this reason, Ms. Marshall has established three types of enrichment activities. The first includes exposure to people, places and processes which spark their interests. The second type deals with group skill training. Group skill training involves group work with problem solving. The third type involves actual creation and production of students’ personal ideas.
Another phase of the program allows the students to meet and learn about the careers of various professionals. Among these are local professionals: James J. Kilpatrick and Eugene McCarthy, who will be discussing various journalistic techniques. The students will have an opportunity to work under two professionals of their choice.
