Legal Fees
Less than $3,000 was spent in 1980-81 from line item 299 (contractual services and expenditures), according to Estabrook.
Last year, the board put $12,000 in that category, including $7,000 for architectural fees. When the supervisors cut the proposed budget, however, that $7,000 was one of the first items deleted to absorb the bottom line reduction.
Since expenditures were below $3,000, Estabrook suggested that amount be allocated for 1982-83 for the line item (which covers the school board’s legal fees).
Chairman Massie replied that she would like to see the appropriation remain at $5,000. The rest of the board agreed, noting that it’s impossible to predict when legal services will be needed.
For line item 319 (office supplies) Estabrook applied the same ten percent increase he’s using as a ‘‘starting point" in other areas of the budget, going from $1,500 to $1,650.
With no school census scheduled with the coming year, the superintendent proposed reducing line item 326 (census, surveys and reports) from $1,000 to $500.
