I was also alert for possible markers left bv merkle hunters, stone cairns that might tell me something; an occasional blaze on a tree, sticks and branches that appeared to have been arranged to point to something, not left by nature; a beer bottle, subtly pointing (I was becoming increasingly suspicious of merkle hunters), even a piece of tinfoil that appeared to have been left as litter drew my attention.
