I found it disturbing that the News did not ftnd room last week to print a letter on U.S. involvement in Nicaragua. I was worried that our local paper did not consider the issue to be of sufficient "local interest” - a reason its former editor cited more than once in rejecting letters. There seems to me to be widespread local interest over our intervention in Nicaragua, and for understandable reasons.
First, in November, 1980 Rappahannock voters, by a wide margin, helped elect a president who now directs a covert military campaign to overthrow the government of a sovereign state, in direct contravention of an Act of Congress. (And in next year’s elections they will vote whether to reject or to renew such policies.)
