Stiff winds Sunday night and Monday blew across saturated Rappahannock fields after the county’s eighth wet weekend in a row. Gardeners who work during the week are having a difficult time in muddy garden plots and flower beds, and farmers are frustrated with fields looking more suitable for rice than corn.
Sunday’s rain added almost three inches to the local total of 17 inches, making April’s total rainfall 12 inches and giving the county half of its expected yearly total in under three months, starting with the deep snowfall of February.
