“What is more important to spend our money on than our children?” asked Frank Reynolds, one of about 50 Rappahannock citizens who came out to support proposed 1984-85 school expenditures at Monday night’s budget hearing.
There was no opposition voiced to the projected 12 percent increase in school costs that will, if approved, raise local educational expenditures from $2,354,662 to $2,629,155.
After listening to an hour of comments, all supporting the proposed school expenses, Supervisor Hubert Gilkey noted this is his fifth year of budget work. “Every year, we’ve always put the schools off... I’d like to go on record supporting this budget in its entirety,” he announced, prompting a sustained round of applause.
