Olympic Flame

A relay team of Olympic < torchbearers is tentatively scheduled to run the Olympic flame along Route 50 in Virginia on May 15, passing through Middleburg and < Winchester, enroute from New York to Los Angeles, , for the start of the 1964 Summer Olympic Games. From Winchester, the Olympic flame is expected to continue along Route 50 through Hayfield on the way to Romney, West Virginia, and points west.
The Olympic Torch Relay will begin in New York City on May 8. The flame will pass through 38 states and thousands of cities and towns before it reaches the Los Angeles Coliseum on July 28, where it wfll be used to ignite the host city’s Olympic flame, to signal the opening of the games.
Olympic planners had already conducted a trial run along Virginia’s Route 50. However, the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee will not announce a detailed time and route schedule in Virginia until early May.
